Historical Characteristics Tables (2003-2017)

               


2018

  • The Annual Characteristics webpage has been redesigned for the 2018 survey year. All data is now on the main page in one table. Categories (single-family completed, single-family sold, multifamily units, multifamily buildings) will no longer have separate pages.
  • Tables are available in excel format only. PDF tables have been discontinued.
  • The file names were changed for the following files:

    • finance.xls is now financing.xls
    • contractpricerange.xls is now contractprice.xls
    • soldpricerange.xls is now soldprice.xls

2017 improvement (released 12/19/2018)


2016 revisions (released 10/17/17)

  • Data for 2014-2016 in all tables of Characteristics of New Single-Family Houses Sold and Contractor-Built Houses Started as well as tables on Age-Restricted Status for Single-Family Houses Completed, Single-Family Houses Sold, Multifamily Units Started, and Multifamily Units Completed have been revised to include additional response data that had been omitted from previously tabulated estimates.

2016


2014

  • New tables for New Single-Family Houses Completed were released that include data on lot size. These new tables show data back to 2009.
  • New tables for New Multifamily Buildings Completed were released that include data on parking facilities. These new tables show data back to 2009.
  • New tables for New Single-Family Houses Sold were released that include data on outdoor features (porches, decks, and patios). These tables show data back to 2010.

2013 supplement (released 9/2/2014, added to main tables for 2014)

  • New tables for New Single-Family Houses Completed were released that include data on age-restricted developments, presence of homeowners' association, foyer, framing, sewer and water systems, lot size, and laundry. These tables show data back to 2009.
  • New tables for New Multifamily Buildings Completed were released that include data on framing and laundry. These tables show data back to 2009.
  • The new tables for Units in New Multifamily Buildings Completed were released that include data on framing and laundry. These tables show data back to 2009.
  • New tables for New Single-Family Houses Sold were released that include data on age-restricted developments, presence of homeowners' association, and framing. These tables show data back to 2009.

2013

  • Metropolitan and Non-Metropolitan will no longer be included in the table breakouts for all individual characteristics for Single-Family Houses Completed. A new table "Metropolitan Statistical Area Status" will now show the data going back to 1999.
  • Crosstabulations (bedrooms by bathrooms, heat system by heating fuel, and primary by secondary wall material) will no longer be shown at the regional level.
  • Categories for the type of financing for Single Family Houses Completed and Single-Family Houses sold were updated.
  • Categories for the number of stories for Single-Family Houses Completed and Single-Family Houses sold were updated. 'Split-level' homes will now be included with data for '2 stories'.
  • Categories for the number of floors in Multifamily Buildings and Multifamily Units Completed were updated to include '3 floors' as a separate category.

2008

  • Categories for exterior wall materials of Single-Family Houses Completed and Single-Family Houses Sold were updated. The new tables include fiber cement as a separate category beginning with data for 2002 and no longer show aluminum siding as a separate category.
  • Ranges for data on the square feet of floor area for Single-Family Houses Completed and Single-Family Houses Sold were updated.
  • Ranges for data on square feet per unit for Multifamily Buildings Completed were updated.
  • Data collection for closing costs of Single-Family Houses Sold was discontinued.

2005

  • Sales price and price per square foot ranges for Single-Family Houses Sold were updated.
  • Price per square foot ranges for Contractor-Built Houses Started were updated.
